BMW 635CSi Group A

The Ultimate Touring Car

In the early 1980s, the BMW 635CSi entered the international touring car scene as a dominant force under Group A regulations. Combining Bavarian engineering with a sleek coupé design, it became a true symbol of power and prestige in motorsport.

"It had power, it had balance, and it had presence. The 635 was a proper gentleman's racer." Steve Soper

At GDM Motors, we rebuild the 635CSi from the ground up — starting with a genuine BMW E24 shell. Every component is restored or custom-built to meet exact FIA Group A homologation specs. The result? A fully race-ready machine that looks, feels, and drives like its 1980s factory counterpart.

Model History

The BMW 635CSi in Group A

Debuting in 1983, the BMW 635CSi was BMW’s answer to the Group A touring car formula. With its powerful straight-six engine, balanced handling, and aerodynamic shape, it quickly became a frontrunner in the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) and other international series.

Run by teams like Schnitzer, Eggenberger, and Bigazzi, the car achieved numerous victories — most notably the 1983 ETCC title and multiple podium finishes at Spa 24 Hours and Nürburgring. It combined luxury coupé design with raw racing ability, making it one of the most iconic touring cars of its generation.
