Volvo 240 Turbo Group A

The Flying Brick That Conquered Europe

Boxy, brutal, and fast — the Volvo 240 Turbo became one of the most surprising Group A champions of the 1980s. With its turbocharged powerplant and relentless reliability, it took the fight to BMW and Rover, claiming the 1985 European Touring Car Championship in dominant fashion.

"People laughed when they saw a Volvo on the grid — they weren’t laughing when it passed them." Gianfranco Brancatelli

At GDM Motors, we faithfully recreate this Group A icon. Using an original Volvo 240 shell, each build is stripped, strengthened and assembled with precision — every component matching the official FIA homologation sheet. From the signature boost lag to the sharp handling, this is Group A, Swedish-style.

Model History

Volvo 240 Turbo Group A

When Volvo entered Group A racing in the early 1980s, few expected the conservative Swedish brand to become a touring car giant. But with Eggenberger Motorsport behind the wheel — and the boost turned up — the 240 Turbo quickly earned respect.

In 1985, the Volvo 240 Turbo won the European Touring Car Championship, defeating established rivals like BMW and Rover. Known affectionately as “The Flying Brick,” its mix of straight-line speed, solid handling, and tank-like durability made it one of Group A's most unforgettable challengers.
