Punch Racing ready for final test before 24h race at Nürburgring

3 May 2022

Punch Racing will participate with two cars in the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers, the last testing opportunity before the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.

For 2022, the previous qualifying race has been massively rebuilt and now goes by the name ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers. During the race weekend, two races over three hours each will be completed, which will be the last testing opportunity before the legendary 24-hour race, which will take place from May 26 to 29. PROsport Racing will contest the two races on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon with four cars.

For the first time, the team from Wiesemscheid will field the Aston Martin Vantage GT8R. The GT8R is the latest customer sports car from Aston Martin, designed to bridge the gap between the GT3 model and the GT4 car. The car was developed and tested on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in 2020. The four Belgians Guillaume Dumarey, Maxime Dumarey, Jean Glorieux and Simon Balcaen will pilot the car, which will compete in the SP8T class.

Christoph Esser’s team will start in the SP10 class with two Aston Martin Vantage GT4s. Christoph Breuer, Alexander Mies, Miklas Born and Mike David Ortmann, who also competes for PROsport Racing in the ADAC GT4 Germany and GT4 European Series, will take turns in the team’s top car. In addition, the three gentleman drivers Guido Dumarey, Alexander Walker and Yevgen Sokolovskiy will drive the second car.

In addition, PROsport Racing will once again field a Porsche Cayman in the V5 class. Reema Juffali, the first female racer from Saudi Arabia and Norwegian Emil Heyerdahl will drive the car.

After their first podium finish in a Nürburgring Endurance Series race at the 53rd Adenauer ADAC Rundstrecken Trophy, the aim here is to achieve the Nordschleife Permit.

“Our goal is for the three Aston Martin cars to start in identical lineups at the 24-hour race at the end of May,” says team boss Christoph Esser. “We therefore see the two races as a final test for the drivers and the team.”

The two three-hour races will start at 18:30 on Saturday and at 14:00 on Sunday. The races will be broadcast live on the online platforms of the 24-hour race.
